Singapore's Net provider picks PeopleSoft

The country's sole cable Internet and TV services provider replaces its legacy financial systems with PeopleSoft's Web based software.

Singapore's cable Internet and TV services provider has replaced its legacy financial systems with Web-based financial software from PeopleSoft.

"With PeopleSoft 8 Financials, Singapore Cable Vision is now able to streamline accounting processes and have a faster and more accurate view of financial information," said Angus McDougall, PeopleSoft South Asia general manager.

The software modules installed include those covering general ledger, inventory, billing, order management, and account payables and receivables work, said PeopleSoft, which declined to reveal the value of the seven-month-long project.

Singapore Cable Vision, the island's sole cable Internet and television services provider, has 340,000 pay TV customers and 88,000 broadband accounts. Last month, it completed its merger with the country's No. 2 telecommunications provider StarHub, also a PeopleSoft 8 Financials user.

"Apart from the demanding reporting requirements (arising from) the merger, we also need to ensure that the company continues to offer the most cost-effective and affordable services to our growing subscriber base," said Tan Kwi Yong, SCV vice president for corporate services.

The decision on PeopleSoft came after a "rigorous review" of similarly highly regarded applications on the market, Tan noted, without providing details.
