Sigma Networks, a communications-service provider, has agreed to offer its network services to customers in Equinix data-hosting centers. The deal initially calls for Sigma to offer its services in Equinix facilities in Washington, D.C., and Silicon Valley, though additional markets will be named later.
Equinix owns dozens of Web site hosting centers, secure facilities where computer servers are operated. The company had previously signed a deal to work with Sigma. Sigma Networks acts as a neutral intermediary, linking the local and long-distance networks of many competing carriers, which allows the company to trade traffic.
