Showtime program available on Yahoo

The first episode of Kirstie Alley's "Fat Actress" will be streamed on Yahoo at the same time it debuts on the cable network.

The first episode of "Fat Actress," a new Showtime comedy series, will be streamed on Yahoo at the same time it debuts on television, the two companies said Wednesday.

The show will be streamed in full on Yahoo on March 7. The Webcast can be accessed by anyone with Internet access and will remain available for streaming on Yahoo TV until March 12.

Yahoo said it will promote the series on its network two weeks before the debut with video clips and photos.

The show, featuring Kirstie Alley, is a story of a woman struggling for a break in Hollywood.

Streaming video of popular entertainment shows and events is catching on with Internet companies. Recently, Microsoft's MSN streamed the 100th New Year's Eve celebration held at Times Square, and America Online has been planning a free video service. The growing penetration of broadband in U.S. homes is spurring streaming video services featuring sports and entertainment content.

"We are always looking for aggressive new ways to promote our shows, generate buzz and provide an opportunity for sampling, and Yahoo is the perfect vehicle to spread the word," Robert Greenblatt, Showtime president of entertainment, said in a statement.
