Short Take: W3C proposes DOM recommendation

The World Wide Web Consortium has proposed a recommendation for the Document Object Model, a standard interface that lets programs and scripts access documents' content, structure, and style. Currently, developers can write their own proprietary application programming interfaces to do this, but a standard XML DOM with W3C approval is expected to make documents, in particular those written in HTML and XML, more interoperable and universally accessible.
