Verizon Communications will temporarily withdraw its application to provide long-distance in Massachusetts, it has told the Federal Communications Commission. FCC chairman Bill Kennard said in a statement Monday that Verizon "came close" to approval but needs more independent data including how competitors access Verizon's network for high-speed Internet access. It is not unprecedented for a Bell to withdraw an application and re-submit after gathering new data.
