Home networking start-up Tut Systems announced a new copper wire-based technology that can transmit data over distances as far as one-half of a mile. Called LongRun, the technology is designed to be used in conjunction with the company's user adapters and back-end concentration equipment. Tut's technology allows data to be delivered at 1 Mbps rates, with the new distance capability targeted at providing that speed to campus-oriented settings.
