Short Take: TSM buys stake in wafer maker

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing has entered into an agreement to buy Altera's 23 percent ownership in WaferTech, a facility in Camas, Wash. that produces silicon wafers for chipmaking operations. TSM will pay $350 million for Altera's stake in the company, which is jointly owned by a number of companies. TSM, which manufacturers chips for companies that do not have their own factories, makes chips for Altera and will continue to do so, according to the companies.
