Short Take: Teligent to develop new wireless antenna

Fixed wireless service provider Teligent and wireless equipment maker Remec plan to jointly develop new antenna technology that could improve fixed wireless networks. The so-called active antenna repeater technology would allow Teligent to reach office buildings that are not within the direct "line of sight" of base station gear. Fixed wireless systems currently must be pointed in the general direction of the roof-top receiver dishes, though the new antenna could reach more than 90 percent of buildings within the range of the base station, the companies said. Theoretically, the technology could mean less equipment and cheaper service costs. A patent is pending.
