Short Take: Telecom veteran to join Williams board

H. Brian Thompson, a longtime telecommunications industry executive, will be appointed as one of two outside members on the Williams Communications board of directors when the company goes public. Thompson, formerly of MCI Communications and LCI International, resigned as vice chairman of Williams competitor Qwest Communications International last year to join Global TeleSystems Group.
