Short Take: Sun to release cluster clues
By the end of 1999, Sun Microsystems will release the programming instructions for technology that lets people tie lots of computers together to act like a single, high-performance computer. The ClusterTools technology will be released under a version of Sun's Community Source License, which lets people look at underlying source code but not freely redistribute it in the open-source model. The software uses a message-passing interface, a similar method to the free Beowulf technique that underlies Linux quasi-supercomputers.
