Short Take: Sun ships JavaOS

Sun Microsystems is shipping its JavaOS 1.0 operating system to licensees. JavaOS is a lightweight OS that is designed to power network computers and other devices. Some of the companies that have licensed the OS include Xerox, Mitsubishi, and Toshiba. JavaOS is available right now only for Sun Sparc and Intel x86 platforms, although a StrongARM version is expected later this month.
