Short Take: Spy suspect threatened U.S. with Net disclosure

Robert Lipka, jailed on suspicion of espionage, attempted to blackmail the government in October of 1996 with a threat to disclose classified information on the Internet. Lipka sought to have the government drop charges against him, court documents show; he is charged with stealing classified documents from the National Security Agency's headquarters during his employment there from 1965 to 1967 and with selling those documents to Soviet agents.
