Short Take: Sprint steps up data center plans

Taking a further step from its roots as a long-distance provider, Sprint on Wednesday announced a plan to have 18 data centers built by the end of 2002, and 11 built by the end of next year. Sprint chief executive William Esrey promised an aggressive push to begin buildling when announcing Sprint's e-Solutions business unit last month as part of a strategy to increase revenues from Web hosting and Internet transport.
