Short Take: Sprint buys another wireless cable firm
Sprint is buying another set of wireless cable TV operations, accelerating its drive to create a broadband link directly to homes. The company has acquired the wireless assets of the Canadian Videotron group for $180 million, giving it wireless spectrum in Tampa Bay, Florida, as well as San Francisco, Seattle, San Diego, and other West Coast cities. Sprint also bought out Transworld Telecommunications, which owned a smaller stake in the Videotron assets. Sprint plans to use the operations for high-speed Internet and local telephone service.
