Short Take: Softwire raises $8.6 million toward launch

Bay Area start-up Softwire has collected $3.5 million this month towards its launch. The Larkspur-based company, founded in February by former Sybase director of messaging technologies Allan Lees, raised $5.1 million in its first round of financing in July. Softwire plans to ship its first product at the end of the second quarter of 1997.
