Short Take: SoftNet gets $129 million investment

SoftNet Systems, owners of cable modem service ISP Channel, today received a $129 million equity investment from Pacific Century CyberWorks, a Hong Kong-based technology company. Together the companies will create a joint venture to deploy cable modem service in Asia, sell SoftNet's Intellicom satellite connectivity service to Asian cable operators, and develop interactive television services and content for ISP Channel domestically. The venture will launch service in Asia next year, executives said.
