Short Take: Senate considers Net filtering proposals

The Senate has yet to pass controversial amendments to spending legislation that would make it a crime for Web sites to distribute "harmful" material to children and also would require most schools and libraries to filter federally funded Net access. The provisions are buried in an appropriations bill sponsored by the Commerce, State, and Justice departments, which the Senate is still mulling over now.
