The Santa Cruz Operation announced it has shipped an early release of its UnixWare operating system for the IA-64 Merced chip from Intel to a small set of partners. The release also includes associated development tools, allowing third parties to start building 64-bit applications. A software developer's kit will be released to a wider set of developers in early 1999. The company also announced UnixWare editions for business and datacenter, due in the first half of next year.
