Short Take: SBC gives funds for tech development

SBC Communications has delivered the first $10 million of a $50 million commitment to help low-income communities in California gain access to the Internet and other new technologies. State regulators set the funds as a condition of SBC's merger with Pacific Bell in 1997. The donations will initially go to the Community Technology Foundation of California.
