A new report from market researcher Cahners In-Stat Group predicts that mobile devices, such as handheld computers, cell phones and two-way pagers, will displace PCs as the preferred method of getting online within a few years. Shipments of mobile devices are expected to see double- and triple-digit growth through 2004. The boom will be led by sales of Internet-enabled mobile phones, which are expected to surpass 1 billion units shipped annually by 2004.
