Qwest Communications International vice chairman H. Brian Thompson will step down by the end of the year, the company said. Thompson also will resign from the board of directors, effective January 1. Previously Thompson was chief executive at LCI International, a long distance carrier that Qwest bought in March. Thompson said he will remain active in the international communications arena.
