Philips Semiconductors announced a new MPEG-2 processor designed to process compressed audio, video, and data streams for TV set-top box applications. The new chip lets manufacturers build digital receivers that allow users to watch one digital channel while simultaneously recording another through a IEEE 1394 connector. Evaluation boards and sample quantities are available now and will be shipping in quantity during the third quarter of 1999.
