PC-Tel is shipping its 56-kbps
software-based modem to Fujitsu for
use in the "Biblo" mini-notebook computer. The HSP56 56-kbps modem, which
dispenses with the use of a digital signal processor and various other
chips, supposedly uses one-eighth the power of a PC Card modem, according
to PC-Tel. The unit price is $30 in quantities of 1,000.
