Short Take: PC-Tel makes modem for Be OS

PC-Tel said it has developed a software modem for use with the Be operating system, including Be's platform for information appliances, code-named Stinger. Software-based modems use the computer's main microprocessor for computing power instead of a separate set of special modem chips. Because fewer chips are needed, they are less expensive than traditional hardware modems.
