Short Take: PacBell to offer NorthPoint IDSL

Pacific Bell Internet Services, the Net access arm of the local phone company, has agreed to offer a certain type of high-speed digital subscriber line (DSL) Net access from competitor NorthPoint Communications in its California region. PacBell will use NorthPoint IDSL, a "flavor" of DSL based partially on ISDN technology, to serve a larger number of consumers. IDSL is not subject to many of the same distance limitations that other varieties of DSL face.
