Short Take: Nortel signs up Motorola support

Nortel Networks has signed up chipmaker Motorola to support its "Open IP Environment," a strategy announced this past November by Nortel to license its network routing software to third parties. The two companies said they would jointly promote the technology for use with the PowerPC set of chips made by Motorola. Nortel hopes that by opening up its routing software to third parties it can rally developer support and expand its base of potential customers vs. competitors, such as routing leader Cisco Systems.
