Short Take: Nortel Networks completes acquisition of Xros

Phone-equipment maker Nortel Networks today announced the completion of its acquisition of Xros, a privately-held start-up that provides second-generation, large scale, fully photonic switching. Xros' (pronounced KY-ROS) silicon-based micro-mirror technology will allow data to be switched through large-scale optical networks entirely in the form of light. Nortel agreed to buy Xros for $3.25 billion in stock.
