Short Take: Nortel debuts new ATM-based switches

Northern Telecom announced two new lines of ATM-based switching devices for corporate networks and service providers. The new Passport 6400 and 7400 lines are targeted at wide area needs, with both lines supporting a variety of connection types such as frame relay, SNA, voice, IP, and IPX. Nortel claims the new devices offer 200 percent to 300 percent performance gains over previous Passport products.
