Nextel Communications, a wireless carrier, will sell 2,000 wireless communications towers to SpectraSite Communications for $560 million and a 17 percent stake in the company. SpectraSite, an owner and operator of wireless communications towers, will build an additional 1,700 new towers within five years, to own 2,200 towers after the deal closes.
