Motorola today moved to encourage the cable industry to adopt its CyberSurfr cable modem protocol, by announcing the open availability of protocol specifications. The company hopes industry developers will use the specs to make equipment to interoperate with the CyberSurfr cable modem. The company said it has notified CableLabs, the industry's research arm, of its offer of royalty-free cross-licenses to developers interested in making compatible equipment.
