M.I.T.'s Laboratory for Computer Science and Laboratory for Nuclear Science said that Sun Microsystems has donated nine Ultra Enterprise 5000 symmetric multiprocessor servers and related equipment collectively valued at approximately $2.6 million for use in MIT's Xolas high-performance computing project. The computers will be used to perform large-scale computations in the physical sciences.
