Short Take: Lucent rolls out cable hardware and software

Lucent Technologies rolled out an updated set of hardware and software targeted at cable operators. The new CableConnect technologies include features that allow cable companies to offer telephone service through their cable pipes using the Internet protocol (IP). As part of the deal, Lucent announced a joint development and marketing agreement with Motorola to integrate cable-based systems. Trials of the new technology will begin this summer.
