Short Take: Lucent grabs wireless contract from Cricket

Lucent Technologies won a contract for wireless equipment worth at least $330 million from Cricket Communications, the U.S.-based subsidiary of Leap Wireless International. Lucent will install equipment based on code division multiple access (CDMA) networking technology in Cricket's domestic network. Cricket currently offers service in Tennessee, but Leap Wireless has rights to acquire wireless licenses to bring service to 24 million potential subscribers, according to the company. Wireless giant Ericsson signed a similar pact with Cricket.
