Short Take: Level 3 to build out Big Apple

Level 3 Communications, an IP-based telecommunications carrier, has received approval from New York City to build a fiber optic network in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, and Queens. The New York network will serve as a gateway linking Level 3's planned 16,000 mile U.S. network with its European network. Level 3 currently offers service in 17 U.S. cities in addition to London and Frankfurt, Germany.
