Level 3 Communications, a packet-switched
fiber network provider, posted a second quarter net loss of $116 million,
or 39 cents a share, compared with net earnings of $56 million, or 9 cents
a share, for the like period a year ago. Excluding a merger-related charge
the company's loss was $1 million, or 1 cent a share. Quarterly revenue
rose to $103 million from $81 million last year.
