Short Take: Japanese wireless distributor takes stake in Pixo

Japanese cellular phone distributor Hikari Tsushin, a major wireless retailer, has invested $29.5 million in Pixo, a wireless microbrowser software maker, the companies will announce this week. Pixo hopes Hikari's relationships with several handset manufacturers will help the company get its dual-mode WAP and HTML microbrowser into various phones. The two companies also will create a joint venture intended to offer wireless Internet access and content. Samsung recently announced its intent to use Pixo's software in its new handsets.
