Short Take: IRS technology chief to resign

Arthur Gross, the IRS official in charge of overhauling the federal agency's computer system, has announced plans to resign. Gross, along with deputy Treasury secretary Lawrence Summers, oversaw the overhaul of a failed IRS computer modernization project, halting dozens of computer upgrade projects shortly after Gross came to the agency. Before he joined the IRS in March 1996, Gross was deputy tax commissioner for information management at New York?s department of taxation and finance.
