A new study by market research firm International Data Corporation determined the top six industries buying products and services on the Internet. Spending in the $124 billion Internet economy is led by the following: manufacturing of ready-to-ship products with $23 billion, communications-media with $15.2 billion, banking with $15.1 billion, services with $10.9 billion, raw materials manufacturing with $10 billion, and retail with $8.4 billion, the study found. IDC projects online spending will reach $518 billion by 2002.
