Short Take: IBM to release Prizma chip to third parties

IBM announced it will make chip technology used in its line of switching hardware available to third parties. The so-called Prizma chip supports ATM, fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, and token ring layouts. Third parties that have already signed up to use the chip include Alcatel and Northern Telecom.
