IBM cut prices today on its mid-range and lower-end RS/6000 Unix-based servers as much as 30 percent. The systems are targeted for applications such as e-commerce Web page delivery or enterprise resource planning. An RS/6000 F50 with a single 166-MHz PowerPC chip was cut 30 percent from $19,900 to $13,900; An RS/6000 F40 with a single 233-MHz PowerPC chip was cut 29 percent from $13,995 to $9,900.
