Short Take: IBM announces Simply Speaking

IBM is offering a stripped-down version of its VoiceType speech recognition software for $99. Called Simply Speaking, the product is targeted toward home users wishing to dictate letters, email, and school reports. It comes with a microphone and a base vocabulary of 22,000 words, expandable up to 42,000 words. However, it lacks several features included in more expensive VoiceType products that start at $700, including dictation within any application, macro creation, and additional vocabulary sets.
