Toshiba chose Hyundai Electronics to temporarily produce LCD panels, to meet strong demands for its notebook computers. By year end, Hyundai will start producing about 10,000 12.1-inch, active-matrix LCDs a month. Hyundai plans to set up a large factory in early 1998 to produce the LCDs. Toshiba has been producing LCDs at two Japanese factories in cooperation with IBM Japan, as reported by Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Japan's largest business daily.
