Short take: HP pumps up its Unix offering

Hewlett-Packard has beefed up its HP-UX version of the Unix operating system, adding support for as many as 32 processors, better connections to Fibre Channel storage systems, a performance boost for online transaction processing, and better support for non-English alphabets and the Euro currency symbol. The improvements are part of an "extension pack" for HP-UX version 11. HP said there are more than 25,000 versions of HP-UX installed worldwide.
