More than half of the United States has home Web access, according to a report from Nielsen/NetRatings. Nearly 144 million people, or 52 percent of the population, surfed the Internet from home last month. That marked a 35 percent gain from July 1999, according to the report. Time spent online has also increased during the past year, with home Net users logging nearly 10 hours a month. The number of sites visited, however, has dropped.
