Global Crossing's GlobalCenter announced plans to open two new data and Web hosting centers in Sunnyvale, Calif. and Anaheim, Calif. later this quarter. Combined, the two new centers will give GlobalCenter 150,000 square feet of new hosting space. Many communications companies are building data centers that directly link Internet customers with their high-speed fiber-optic networks, allowing for much higher data transfer rates. GlobalCenter competes against Exodus Communications, AboveNet and dozens of other hosting and application service providers (ASPs).
