Gigabit start-up Packet Engines, recently acquired by Alcatel, announced that a new 6-port module for the company's PowerRail 5200 networking switch allows the device to support up to 73 gigabit-speed Ethernet ports. The company also rolled out plans to support packet-over-SONET technology within its PowerRail family of switches, with a new module due by the end of the year.
