Short Take: General Magic buys NetPhonic

General Magic said it has acquired NetPhonic Communications, which makes the Web-on-Call voice browser. General Magic gets the rights to all intellectual property as well as commitments from "key" technical employees. However, the company plans to incorporate Web-on-Call in future versions of its Serengeti, a package that handles voice mail, email, faxes, addresses, and schedules, expected to launch in mid-1998.
