Short Take: Fore Systems to support new standard

Networking specialist Fore Systems, maker of switching devices based on asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) technology, announced that it will support an emerging standard that adds intelligence to the Internet protocol, or IP. Fore will add support for the multi-protocol label switching specification, or MPLS, to its line of ATM switches by the second half of this year. The MPLS protocol was created to ease the addition of complex services using IP and may also serve as a way to easily integrate IP-based technology with ATM. Fore also announced a significant equipment upgrade contract with the U.S. division of Cable & Wireless.
