Short Take: Excite to power Chinese portal's search

SinaNet, a Chinese-language Internet gateway, has signed on Excite to power its Web search engine. The technology will be able to search in both the traditional Chinese character set primarily used in Taiwan and Hong Kong, and the simplified Chinese character set customary in mainland China. The service will roll out on June 3, the firms said.
