Short Take: Entertainment providers postpone DVDs

Major digital video disc content providers have postponed marketing their DVD titles for one to two weeks. Toshiba EMI and Victor Entertainment cited possible compatibility problems with some DVD players, including those of Toshiba and Matsushita Electric Industrial as the main reason for the delay. Several DVD players will start shipping November 1, but customers will have to wait to try them out with major titles, according to a report in the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Japan's largest business daily.
